This Baby Beanie Crochet Pattern is truly easy and quick. You will work from the bottom of the hat, working in the round. You create an easy beautiful ribbing using front and back post double Crochet. The hat's body is made by switching colors every row up to the top. You will carry the thread rather than having a ton of ends to weave in.
This way of making the rib does not give it much stretch, but I have a workaround that helps the stretch a little better.
Yarn: approx. 60 yards Coboo from Lion brand in White and approx. 80 yards Plymouth Yarn Dreambaby DK Pale Blue.
Skill Level: Beginner
Hook: 4mm
Hat measures: 18 inches by 8 inches
Gauge: 15 stitches in 4 inches.
Stitches used:
Row1. Make enough chains to reach your measurement in inches. I made 65 chains. Make sure to end with an odd number. Without twisting, join end to beginning with sl st.
Row 2. Chain 3. 1 fpdc around dc below. { 1 bpdc around next dc. I fpdc around next dc.} Join with sl st to top of beginning fpdc.
Row 3. Repeat Row 2. (1 Fpdc around fpdc and1 bpdc around bpdc} around. Join with sl st to top of beginning fpdc.
Cut Yarn and attach to starting edge. This is the workaround to get the edge with more stretch. The starting edge has less stretch, so we put it on the inside.
Row 4. Starting from attaching space, work 1 sc2tog. {In the last space of sc2tog, start your next sc2tog} around. Join with sl st to top of 1st st. Do not cut Yarn. Be careful to lay Yarn being dropped in a way that is easily accessible in the next row.
Row 5. Ch2. 1 hdc in the same space. 1hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of 1st st. Do not cut Yarn.
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until desired hat length is reached.
We embellished our Baby Beanie Crochet Pattern with a star. See how here.
