This easy crochet hat pattern is the most straightforward crochet hat pattern. It uses only two stitches.
You will work in the round with no joining at the end of each row. You must use a stitch marker at the beginning of each row during the increase phase.
The hat is suitable for adults as well as kids. You may use any yarn that you prefer. It is lovely in a solid color, but you can get a pop using self-striping yarn.
You can make the length long enough to turn up the brim. The brim could sit right on the forehead with no upturn.
The brim in the demo hat has black because I ran out of the yarn I was using. But I feel that adding the black complemented the hat very nicely.
Yarn to use: Use any yarn that you prefer. For example, if making the hat for a baby, use baby yarn. If for an adult, use Worsted, Medium #4 or a Chunky, Bulky #5.
Needle to use: Use a needle 1MM smaller than the needle recommended for the yarn.
Skill Level: Easy
Stitches Used:
Measure the head around the forehead to get the proper width. Then measure from the top of the crown to the forehead for the height. Use the hat measurement chart as your guide if you don’t have a head to measure.
Work increases until you reach the desired crown size.
Remember you will not be joining at the end of each row, so use a stitch marker to mark the start of each row.
To get a bigger hat, continue with increases until you reach the size you like.
When you stop increasing, the hat will start forming the hat shape.
14. Sc in each sc around.
Repeat Row 14 as many times as necessary to achieve the desired length.
