If you want a chunky crochet blanket pattern, the Bavarian Stitch Square Blanket may be a good choice for you.
It is a textured, dense stitch that is slightly fiddly to start. But if you can take your time and get it right, it will be worth it. The pattern works up very quickly and is beautiful in a solid or with many colors.
The pattern shows only on one side.
Skill Level is: Intermediate.
Use any yarn and the recommended hook size. You can even go up a .5mm more than the recommended hook size to get a looser fabric with more drape. On the other hand, if you want a bulkier blanket, use a smaller needle.
You will work the pattern in the round, but it makes a square blanket.
